Community Service Worker with Addictions Worker Specialty
Community service work often means meeting people at difficult points in their lives and helping them move forward with the right support in place. With a focus on addictions, this work also involves understanding the challenges of substance use and how it affects individuals, families and communities.
Academy of Learning’s Community Service Worker with Addictions Worker Specialty diploma program is designed to help you build the knowledge and practical skills needed to support individuals facing a range of personal and social challenges. You’ll develop an understanding of mental health, addictions and recovery, along with approaches to counselling, communication and case management that are used in practice.
You’ll learn how to work with individuals in a respectful and structured way, while building the communication and organizational skills needed in a professional environment. You’ll also apply what you’ve learned through a field placement in a community setting, gaining hands-on experience, confidence and insight.
Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to move into roles across community agencies, treatment centres, residential programs and outreach services. You might be working one-on-one with individuals, supporting recovery plans, or helping connect people with services such as housing, counselling and community resources.
